choosing colors for scientific figures

I recently gave a short presentation on colors that was a lot of fun to put together (especially the artwork). On a big picture, it is meant to help scientists choose colors for their figures. More specifically, it covers:

  • What are primary colors?
  • Common color spaces used.
  • Common pitfalls that arise from working in RGB/CMYK/HSB color spaces.
  • How to maximize contrast (in both brightness and color).
  • Useful tools, including a color picker and a contrast checker.
